Meet Sara Petit-McClure
Truxton Academy's Head of School
Head of School Announcement
Truxton, NY – March 9, 2019
Truxton Academy Charter School is pleased to formally introduce our new Head of School. The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Sara Petit-McClure as the new Head of School, effective July 1, 2019.
We knew that our ideal candidate must have a commitment to Truxton Academy’s mission, goals, culture, and values. Our Head of School will demonstrate an obvious passion for teaching, leadership, and enhancing student achievement while understanding and appreciating the perspectives of our parents and building meaningful relationships with people throughout our community. The Board is confident that we have secured this leader in Sara Petit-McClure.
Sara Petit-McClure is a career educator who brings her passion to her position as Head of School at Truxton Academy. She has a wide variety of teaching and leadership experiences where her focus has been on making learning engaging and meaningful for all students. Sara was the founding Special Education Coordinator at a dual-language charter school in Austin, Texas, where students learned in both Spanish and English. She was also the Science Coordinator at an elementary school in Laurel, Maryland. Sara holds a master’s degree in Teaching and Curriculum and Educational Leadership, a bachelor’s degree in Inclusive Elementary and Special Education, and is currently completing her PhD in Special Education and Disability Studies. Outside of work, Sara is a mother to two children; Amira, age 7, and Phoenix, who is almost 5. Along with her husband Eric and their children, she enjoys camping, hiking, cooking, and traveling. Sara and her family have a dog, a cat, and raised chickens when they lived in Austin.
The Board’s decision to appoint Sara was based on the unanimous and enthusiastic recommendation of
the Truxton Academy Hiring Committee, which embarked on a nationwide search process last Fall. The Committee reviewed materials from a diverse and experienced set of candidates, then invited
individuals to a thoughtful interview process.
On behalf of the Hiring Committee and Board of Trustees, I want to express our optimism about the future of Truxton Academy under the leadership of Sara Petit-McClure. The Board of Trustees looks forward to introducing Sara and her family to our community and future students at our Open House and Registration event on Wednesday, March 13, 20119. We know you will join us in welcoming them.
