Truxton Academy Charter School Update
Unfortunately we were notified from SUNY Charter Schools Institute that our proposal has not yet been accepted. SUNY recommended that we make some changes to our proposal and will be sending a detailed response shortly. Starting a charter school is a process we knew this when we undertook the challenge. We are determined to bring another choice in public education to our rural NY area. Due to many factors including; the challenge of transportation, limited rural services, economic challenges, and limitations in how to teach in your average public school, the support for another public education option is strong.
As we move forward we want to educate everyone on how charter schools work and how they will affect the district and how they are beneficial for the district. Keep in touch here on our website, via our social media page on Facebook or ask to join our email list at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This school is not about replacing Hartnett Elementary. We can never replace Hartnett. It is about creating a new and different learning environment available to all students and that will help educate differently than our traditional public school districts and for many students will bring learning to their finger tips in a new and positive way.
SUNY Charter Schools Institute has accepted our Letter of Intent bringing us one step closer to opening Truxton Academy Charter School in the Fall of 2017. Our next step in the charter school process is to submit our full proposal on March 29th. Our goal is to bring project-based learning through rural life teaching, using environmental sustainability and agriculture education. We have a lot of work ahead of us to make Truxton Academy a new and innovative elementary school and we welcome your thoughts and ideas as we continue this journey!
